RM Surveys’ Commitment to Reconciliation and National Reconciliation Week 2025

From 27 May to 3 June, RM Surveys joins communities across Australia in celebrating National Reconciliation Week 2025, embracing this year’s theme: Bridging Now to Next

My reconciliation journey alongside RM Surveys is about truth, respect and walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to create a more equitable and inclusive future. It's not just about acknowledgement but also about meaningful action, deep listening and shared responsibility.

- Stacey Fick, Leader, First Nations Engagement Team

The week is more than a calendar event — it’s a time to reflect, to listen, and to act. For RM Surveys, it’s an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to reconciliation through meaningful engagement, cultural learning, and shared progress.

A week of learning, listening, and walking together

Our 2025 National Reconciliation Week campaign brings together people, places, and purpose.

Across all RM Surveys offices, staff will participate in a range of activities designed to honour truth-telling, deepen cultural understanding, and celebrate First Nations voices.

These include:

  • A National Reconciliation Week Breakfast on Tuesday 27 May
  • A film screening of Genocide in the Wildflower State on Wednesday 28 May, providing space for reflection and discussion
  • Participation in Reconciliation WA’s Walk for Reconciliation, standing in solidarity with First Nations communities
  • Wearing BW Tribunal  shirts to show visible support and unity during the week

In addition to these events, internal updates—such as refreshed email signatures and company-wide communications—will help reinforce why this week matters and how each of us can play a role.

A visible commitment in the heart of Perth

In partnership with Reconciliation WA, RM Surveys is proud to sponsor a Murray Street banner for National Reconciliation Week 2025. This public display in the centre of Perth acts as a visible statement of our support for reconciliation and our alignment with this year’s message of connection and forward momentum.

We believe visibility is a catalyst for conversation, and we believe that conversation is where change begins.

Our partnership with Reconciliation WA

RM Surveys has been a proud member of Reconciliation WA for one year, reflecting our commitment to long-term, meaningful engagement with First Nations communities.

As a member, we engage in state-wide initiatives, attend reconciliation events, and share learnings with other WA organisations. Our involvement helps ensure our efforts are not only internal but also connected to a broader reconciliation movement across the state.

Progressing our Reconciliation Action Plan

2025 NAIDOC week ImageIn 2025, we continue to build on our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), which is a formal commitment to embed cultural awareness, respectful relationships, and equitable opportunities within RM Surveys.

Recent milestones that mark our progress:

  • Cultural awareness training: Ongoing sessions to strengthen team understanding of First Nations histories and cultures
  • National reconciliation week participation: Now in our second year of hosting and joining NRW events
  • Cultural library: Launch of a dedicated in-office resource to support reflection and learning
  • Community connections: Deepening relationships through project work, cultural exchanges, and local events

Internal initiatives that reflect our commitment:

  • Supply Nation engagement: 25% increase in spend with registered First Nations businesses
  • Supplier review: Proposal to prioritise onboarding of First Nations suppliers where commercially viable
  • Event and date recognition: Ongoing support for Indigenous events and formal recognition of significant historical dates

While we acknowledge there is always more to learn and more to do, these steps are building blocks towards lasting, respectful relationships and a more inclusive industry and workplace.

Looking ahead, together

For RM Surveys, National Reconciliation Week is not just a date—it’s a directive. Its message continues to inform how we work, connect, and grow all year round.

As a company grounded in spatial understanding, we know that place matters. So does history. And so do the people whose connection to this land spans more than 60,000 years.

“At RM Surveys, we acknowledge the deep history and enduring connection of First Nations peoples to this land. We are committed to walking together in a spirit of respect, listening, and learning. Reconciliation is a journey we embrace with purpose—shaping the way we work, the relationships we build, and the future we hope to help create.”

— Peter Marcello, CEO

Through open dialogue, continuous learning, and long-term action, RM Surveys is proud to help bridge Now to Next — toward a future built on truth, respect, and real partnership.
